Description

Garlic Beef Fried Rice is a quick, hearty, and flavor-packed meal made with tender strips of beef, aromatic garlic, fluffy rice, and savory sauces. Perfect for busy weeknights, it delivers a comforting taste in under 30 minutes, with an irresistible garlicky aroma and satisfying texture.

Ingredients for Garlic Beef Fried Rice

  • 2 cups cooked jasmine rice (preferably day-old, cold)

  • 250 g (9 oz) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

  • 4–5 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn – optional)

  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep the beef – In a bowl, toss sliced beef with a pinch of salt, pepper, and half the soy sauce. Let marinate for 10 minutes.

  2. Cook the beef – Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat. Sear beef for 1–2 minutes until browned but still tender. Remove and set aside.

  3. Garlic & aromatics – Add the remaining oil to the wok. Sauté minced garlic and onion for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  4. Eggs – Push garlic and onion to the side, pour in beaten eggs, and scramble until just set.

  5. Rice & veggies – Add cold rice and break up clumps. Toss in mixed vegetables (if using). Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes.

  6. Seasoning – Add cooked beef back in along with remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Stir-fry until evenly coated and heated through.

  7. Finish – Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • Day-old rice works best as it’s less sticky and fries better.

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.

  • Use a very hot pan for that “wok hei” smoky flavor.

Tips

  • If using fresh rice, spread it out on a tray and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before cooking.

  • Swap beef with chicken, shrimp, or tofu for variation.

  • For extra garlic punch, add a little crispy fried garlic as topping.

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan – fry in batches if needed.
